Latest Activities
Arduino Workshop
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized two sessions of “Arduino Workshop” on dated 28th Feb,2018 and 8th March, 2018 respectively. In session 1, Prof. Paramjit Singh delivered the lecture on “Fundamentals Concepts of Arduino and its Applications”. Second session was chaired by Prof. Jaipreet Kaur and Prof.Sukhdeep Kaur of Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar).
Students focused and practiced on interfacing of Aurdino with various modules such as: LEDs and their patterns, Servo Motor, LCD, Bluetooth Module, Potentiometer, and Speaker at their own. Practical knowledge of the students was enhanced to prepare their industrial projects.
Quiz Competition
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering have organizes the Intra-Departmental QUIZ COMPETITION on 22-02-2018 to enhance the basic as well Technical knowledge of the students. There were total four teams in the finals. These four teams were shortlisted after the written test.Quiz competition consists of three rounds: General Knowledge, Technical Round-1, Technical Round-2.
Electromania-Quiz Competition
“ELECTROCRATES CLUB” of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized “Electromania Quiz Competition” under the supervision of the HOD (ECE) Er.Neetu Gupta. The competition was organized and managed by the faculty and student coordinators of the Club. Different teams from various classes of ECE Department participated in the event.
Visit to Anandpur Sahib
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a visit to Shri Anandpur Sahib for students. Anandpur Sahib is a city in Rup Nagar district in the state of Punjab, India. Known as “The Holy City of Bliss” it is one of the most important sacred places for the Sikhs, closely linked with their religious traditions and history. Students were feeling motivated after visiting the grand place.
National Workshop on Role of Wireless Communication in Smart City
The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized PTU sponsored National Workshop on “Role of Wireless Communication in Smart City”. More than hundred research scholars and students participated in this workshop. Dr. Ravinder Singh Sawhney, HOD ECE from Guru Nanak Dev University delivered an expert talk on Wireless Communication in Smart City. He explored different future challenges in the wireless communication in Smart City. Dr. Anu Sheetal, HOD ECE from Regional Campus Guru Nanak Dev University, Gurdaspur shared knowledge on wireless networks in smart city. In the evening session Er.Kapil Bhutani from Telcocrats Technologies,Chandigarh shared practical knowledge about Virtual Imagination and Internet of Thing which are used in smart city. The aim of this workshop was to bring together researchers & engineers in emerging wireless technology used in smart city.
Industrial visit to Semiconductor Laboratory, Mohali
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a industrial visit to Semiconductor Laboratory, Mohali for ECE 2nd and 3rd year students.SCL Mohali is premium laboratory in Integrated Circuits(IC) Manufacturing and Research and development. Students got knowledge of fabrication, development and packaging of Integrated circuits.

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering Organized a Guest Lecture on “Nanoscale Semiconductor Devices for VLSI Design” on 13th Feb 2017 . The Speaker of the Lecture was Eminent Personality and Microelectronics expert Dr. Balwinder Raj Professor, NIT Jalandhar. Dr. Balwinder Raj very well explained the Concept of Semiconductors and Nanoscale Memory Designing.

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a one day Seminar on “Cellular Communication” on 4.10.2016 by Dr. Shalini Bahel , Assistant Professor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Dr. Shalini Bahel discussed in detail the concept of Cellular Communication, its stages and local & long distance signaling. Er. Neetu Gupta, HOD, ECE, honored her with a memento.
One Day Entrepreneurship Training Workshop On Solar Energy
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a One Day Entrepreneurship Training “Workshop on Solar Energy” on 27.09.2016. Er.Neetu Gupta, Head,Dept.,ECE welcomed the Chief Guest Mr.Harbhajan Singh,CEO (Fortune Consultancy Service, Chandigarh). Er.Harsimranjit Singh,Associate Professor (ECE Dept) introduced the respectable Speaker. He focused on the importance of solar energy development for the bright future and urged budding engineers to be next big entrepreneurs. Mr. Harbhajan Singh gave an insight view of solar energy technology and focused on the importance of solar energy in our daily life. He taught students about basics of Solar Photo Voltaic and its types, how to set up Roof Top, Standalone solar PV, other components of solar PV and their working. He also correlated on issues like maintenance of systems, best battery and He encouraged students to setup their own solar energy development projects.
Workshop on Mechatronics System Design for Robotics
Electrocrats Club of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a workshop on “Mechatronics System Design for Robotics “ on 28.09.2016.This workshop included a hands-on practice on Open Loop Manual Controlled Pneumatic Robotics Arm. The budding engineers of ECE department came to know about the various principles, functionality and working methodology of the Robots. In this workshop , In hands on session, they worked on open loop Manual Controlled Pneumatic Robotics Arm.
Workshop on “Future of Home Automation
The Electrocrates Club of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a Workshop on future of Home Automation on 21.09.2016. Mr. Naveen Jha and Mr. Atulfrom Digital Tomorrow Pvt. Ltd., Chandigarh, were the keynote speakers. They explain the students that the automation is the powerful tools that make life easier. Experts also demonstrate the automation of home appliances through touch panel and Bluetooth.
TECHNO-QUIZ
Quiz competition “ TECHNO-QUIZ” was organized by “ELECTROCRATES CLUB” in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering under the coordination of A.P Ravi Parkash and A.P. Shamsher Singh. Different teams from various classes of ECE Department participated in the event. Out of which students of 4th semester (Section-E3) Tarandeep Kaur , Sukhbir Singh, Manpreet Kaur and Munish Kumar were declared as the winners, where as Gurinderjit Singh, Karanjit singh Gill , Jobanpreet Kaur & Karanvir Singh from 8th semester (Section-E7) were declared as second.
Seminar on “Wireless Communication system and FPGA implementation
An eminent personality Dr. Amandeep Singh Sappal, Assistant Professor, Patiala University, enlightened ECE Students at GIMET on topic Wireless Communication system and FPGA implementation. “Keeping it simple” is the Whole ideology, explained well by Dr. Amandeep Singh Sappal with his own signature way of expressing it. In his lecture he told the students that Utilizing wireless technology eliminates the need for special cables and provides lower installation costs than other types of online condition monitoring equipment. He also put some light on the various Design performance techniques for FPGA, implementation strategies, memory use and run time strategies for FPGA. Interacting with students on the topic Wireless Communication system and FPGA implementation turned out most valuable for final year students as they had their major projects and industrial training scheduled on their curriculum. Dr Amandeep Singh Sappal has been engaged in Research and development for so many years. He has published more than 50 papers in international and national journals and conferences.

The Electrocrates Club of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a guest lecture on “Evolution in Electronics and Communication Engineering” on 24th August,2015. The learned scholar, Dr Ravinder Singh Sawhney, Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication engineering, GNDU, enlightened the students and the faculty o0n the key developments in electronics and its application which brought about revolutionary transformations in the modern world. Beginning with the fundamentals of the topic, Dr.Sawhney discussed the build superstructure of the electronics pyramid to set various aspects of the subject in proper prospective. He also hinted at futurology of the electronics in 21st century, including the widening scope of nanotechnology, molecular devices and application in nuclear science.
Workshop on Futuristic Developments in Robotics and Embedded Systems
The Electronics & Communication Engineering Department of Global Institutes, Amritsar organized 3-day workshop on “Futuristic Developments in Robotics and Embedded Systems” for its faculty and students. The three day workshop was conducted by Mr. Ashish Sethi and his team from EESPL, Chandigarh.
The team worked with the students to develop 3 fully working Robots -FIRO ROBO, MARSIAN ROBO and JCBIAN ROBO. FIRO ROBO is a prototype of an unmanned Robot machine which is used to extinguish fire. MARSIAN ROBOT is based on the prototype of a Mars vehicle launched by NASA for collecting some useful information from planet Mars. JCBIAN ROBO is the prototype of the real time machine i.e. Earth mover. It is a major construction and agriculture equipment. JCBIAN Robo is very helpful for working hazardous, challenging condition where its almost impossible for humans to reach. Apart from the very interesting practical work in the lab, the different sessions held during these three days focussed on the basics of robotics, its applications, input/ output devices interfacing and its need, programmes with stepper motor and its applications.
Quad Copter Designed by Electronics and Communication Engineering Students.
The students of Electronics and Communication Department of Global Institutes Amritsar achieved another milestone by building a Quad Copter. This Quad Copter is designed and developed by fourth year students (Vaibhav Singh, Talwinder Singh, Varun Kumar, Rishabh Singh, Pankaj Kumar ) under the guidance of Er. Harmandeep Singh Sangha Assistant Professor in ECE department. It has four arms and four pitch propellers set in a particular configuration. The major components used are Brushless Motors, Fiber made Propellers, Electronic Speed Controller, Gyro etc. The students focused more on the stability and achievable height of this Quad copter. They worked day and night and came up with a Quad Copter which is very much stable and can reach up to a height of 600 meters. This Quad copter not only proved its stability and height but also have a remarkable lifting power. It can lift up to 1.5 KG weight and fly easily. Its amazing maneuverability and the ease to fly in constricted locations can achieve itself a remarkable position in the aviation sector. It is the result of effective teaching in the department which increased the capability to design such type of projects that are possible only if the basic concepts and use of accelerometer sensor, microcontrollers, and wireless communication are known to students .According to students this Quad copter can be used for Search and Rescue, Code enforcement/Inspection, Emergency Management and Minor Industrial lifting. The Quad copter had its successful test flight in the Global Institute Campus. Students are very happy and thankful to the Management of Global Institutes for the funds and providing all the necessary resources.
Workshop on “Network Simulator -2”
ECE and CSE department of Global Institutes organized a two day workshop on “Network Simulator-2 ” from 16-17 Oct, 2014. Expert trainers were Mr. Umesh Yadav, Vimal Diixit and Mr. Ashwani from NEX-G Institute, Noida who shared their useful experience and valuable knowledge with the students. The objective of this workshop was to introduce world of wired and wireless network and its simulations. The students were able to learn the implementation of routing , security and energy efficient algorithms. Step by step interactive session, computer generated presentations, practical coding session and case study was discussed.
National Workshop On Optical Wireless Communication
The department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized National Workshop on Optical Wireless Communication on 5 Jan, 2015. More than hundred research scholars and students participated in this workshop. Dr. M.L. Singh, HOD ECE from Guru Nanak Dev University delivered an expert talk on Optical Fiber Communication. He explored different future challenges in the Fiber Optic Technology. Dr. Rajinder Sahni, Prof. from Guru Nanak Dev University shared knowledge on wireless sensor network & routing algorithms. The aim of this workshop was to bring together researchers & engineers in emerging wireless & optical communication system.
Group Discussion Competition organized by ECE Department
Group Discussion Competition was organized by ECE department in Global Institutes on 30th Jan, 2015. Many students from various streams participated out of which Varun from Mechanical stream was declared as the winner .Where as Parkeerat from ECE stream was declared as runner up.
Workshop on Embedded Development using ARM Controller and Android
Two Days workshop on Embedded Development using ARM Controller and Android as on RTOS was organized by Electronics and Communication Department. In this workshop expert from EEAST Company presented a fruitful session. In this session students gained lot of knowledge and came to know about the recent trends in Electronics and Embedded System using ARM Microcontroller, ARM interfacing, mobile applications development and Android beyond mobile programming.

An eminent personality Dr. Sanjeev kumar, Scientist, Biomedical Instrumentation at CSIR-Central Scientific instruments organization enlightened ECE Students at GIMET on topic Embedded system and its Applications. “Kepping it simple” is the Whole ideology ,explained well by Dr.Sanjeev Kumar with his own signature way of expressing it. Interacting with students on the topic Embedded system and its applications turned out most valuable for final year students as they had their major projects and industrial training scheduled on their curriculum. Dr Sanjeev has been engaged in Research and development of instruments required by industry and hospitals . He developed Depth of Anaesthesia monitor ,Myoelectric Arm ,Dust Mass monitor and many more..

Our students of Electronics and Communications Department of 3rd year had participated in Asia’s Largest Techno Management Fest held during Kshitij’13 from 1st -4th February 2013 in the event named LUMOS.
LUMOS : To Build one or more autonomous robot(s) that can differentiate between a number of light sources of similar intensity kept inside an isolated room (Arena) and turn each one off.

Since the event LUMOS had 3 rounds and our students had successfully completed the 1st qualifying round of the event with maximum appreciation for their robot designing with aerodynamic shapes.
About Project: Their project was completely based on embedded system as they had used 8051 µcontroller . They had used LDR sensors which give the output to controller and according to the programming logic they had set , the bot performs its function.
